Everett has a working-class music history shaped by its identity as a mill town north of Seattle. In the 1990s and 2000s, the city had a small punk and rock scene centered on Hewitt Avenue warehouse spaces and bars. The Everett Music Initiative, founded in 2012, has built a more consistent local scene through the annual Fisherman's Village Music Festival.

Everett's music venues are concentrated along Hewitt Avenue in downtown. Tony V's Garage is a long-running rock and punk venue. The Black Lab Gallery and Bar hosts indie, punk, and experimental shows. Lucky Dime brings jam bands and eclectic acts. The Historic Everett Theatre hosts larger folk and acoustic performances.

Everett has produced a few regional indie and punk bands that have toured the Pacific Northwest, including Fauna Shade and Narrow Tarot. The broader Snohomish County area has folk and country musicians. Local and regional acts dominate the weekly gig calendar.

Start by attending and eventually performing at the Fisherman's Village Music Festival, the city's best networking event. Open mics and all-ages shows at Black Lab Gallery and Tony V's Garage are reliable entry points. The Everett Music Initiative maintains a community of local artists and organizers.
