Mount Carmel is a small city in the Wabash Valley of eastern Illinois, near the Indiana border. Its musical life has centered on school bands, church choirs, country cover acts, and county fair talent shows. Evansville, Indiana, is the nearest larger city for club performances.

Music happens at the county fairgrounds, church fellowship halls, local bars and restaurants, and the high school auditorium. The American Legion hall also hosts community events. For regular club work, musicians travel across the river to Evansville.

Local and regional artists perform here, with musicians from the nearby Evansville scene occasionally passing through.

New musicians should join the school band or choir, attend church music programs, and look for acoustic nights at local restaurants. Evansville provides the closest open mics and paying gigs for those willing to cross into Indiana.
