Lamar is a plains town in southeastern Colorado where music is rooted in schools, churches, and community events. Marching bands, church choirs, and country or folk groups provide most live sound. Musicians from Pueblo and Colorado Springs area occasionally pass through for fairs.

The high school auditorium, community center, American Legion hall, and county fairgrounds host live music. Local bars and restaurants offer occasional acoustic sets. Larger venues are in Pueblo and Colorado Springs.

In Lamar, local and regional artists perform, with musicians from the nearby Pueblo and Colorado Springs scene occasionally passing through for small shows.

Newcomers can join the school band, sing in church choirs, or attend community center events. For more regular performance experience, players often drive to Pueblo and Colorado Springs.
