Vocalist wanted
Bands looking for a singer post the range, the repertoire, and the nights. Singers apply with a live clip, not just a studio stack. Classifieds, not karaoke comments.
Hiring a singer is range, keys, and reliability
State the keys, the harmony load, and whether you need a front person or a blend.
Lead, backing, or both
Say it in the first line. A harmony specialist is not automatically a front person, and the reverse is also true.
Keys and repertoire
List three songs or a key range. “We play everything” wastes everyone’s commute.
Live clip required
Studio vocals lie. Ask for a phone video from a rehearsal or a gig, even if it is ugly.
Nights and PA
Rehearsal night, monitors, and whether you have a real PA belong in the ad. Singers plan around that.
Fill a vocal seat without a circus audition
Same three songs, same room, same count-in.
Post a musicians-wanted opening with vocals (or lead vocals) as the instrument. City, keys, originals vs covers, and two reference tracks.
Singers hunting a band should open find-members, filter vocals, and apply to listings that name nights and repertoire.
Audition with a ballad and an uptempo. Listen for pitch under volume, blend, and whether they take notes without a speech.
Trial a few gigs or rehearsals. Write down splits, merch, and who owns recordings before anyone is announced as “the singer.”
