Bands & Musicians in Prince Edward Island

Scottish and Irish settlement made the fiddle the island's signature instrument, and ceilidhs and kitchen parties still structure community music-making. Don Messer's Jubilee, broadcast from Charlottetown, carried Island fiddling to a national audience, while Stompin' Tom Connors, raised in Skinners Pond, turned Maritime work into song. Players from Richard Wood to The East Pointers carry the tradition into contemporary folk and indie pop.

Charlottetown holds the island's core circuit: the Confederation Centre of the Arts stages theatre and concerts, and the Trailside in Mount Stewart is a listening room for touring folk and roots acts.
