Music in the Northwest Territories is rooted in Dene drum dancing, hand games, and Métis and Inuvialuit fiddling, traditions carried into the present by artists like Leela Gilday and Digawolf. Yellowknife built a folk community around the Folk on the Rocks festival, and acts like Quantum Tangle blend throat singing with modern songwriting. The scene is small but draws on cultures that predate the territory itself.

Yellowknife holds nearly the entire circuit: the Gold Range bar hosts live bands in a storied room, Folk on the Rocks takes over the shores of Long Lake each summer, and the Snowking Winter Festival stages concerts inside a snow castle on the frozen bay.
