Know Alberta

Alberta's sound grows out of prairie country and cowboy folk, with Ian Tyson writing western standards from a ranch near Longview. Edmonton produced the hardcore punk of SNFU and a folk community built around its long-running folk festival, while Calgary gave rise to k.d. lang, Jann Arden, and Tegan and Sara. Nickelback formed in Hanna, and Corb Lund carries the rural songwriting tradition forward from Taber.
